If you want to reach out to new customers via search engines, you might wonder whether you need to work with a professional content writer.
You might ask yourself: can’t I write my own copy? Why do I need blog posts on my website? Can’t I just use AI for free? (Please don’t do that).
So, do you need to outsource your content marketing? How can you write engaging blog posts for your website? Let’s take a closer look.
Do I need to hire a content writer?
The truth is, you don’t need someone to write your content for you. You can give it all a go yourself, and the results might not be bad at all.
If you enjoy writing – and you have the time – writing your own copy could be a fun, inspiring and exciting way to really connect with new customers.

That said, you might want to work with a writer if you’re an agency or business owner with too much on your plate, you’re unsure about exactly how to bring more customers to your site, or you’re too close to your subject.
Can I use ChatGPT to write my own content?
AI is the big name on everyone’s lips right now. Copywriters are worried it will replace us, and business owners may think it’s easier to run content through AI instead of paying a creative.
But before you put your blog post prompt into ChatGPT, consider what you actually want to achieve. You might get some copy you can add to your website, but a real-life content writer is irreplaceable.
Who is going to ensure your blog post is accurate? Who is going to get your blog post up to the SEO standards needed to rank on Google?

Google is notoriously mean to content it suspects as being generated by AI – and your site could really suffer if you cut corners.
What’s the point of having regular blog posts on your website if no one is going to find them?
My tips to write your own content
If you fancy writing web content for yourself, there are a few things to consider. Let’s take a look at 3 tips to create compelling blog posts for your business.
1. Add value
Your blog posts should always be about adding value. Give your customers key insights into a topic that will genuinely help them.
You can still sell your services, but it’s all about imparting your knowledge, helping your customers and building credibility in your sector.
2. Stick to a posting schedule
Decide what type of content you want to produce, and create a posting schedule for yourself. For example, you might want to post on your blog once a month, or you might want to post on LinkedIn once a week.

Keep it simple! If a blog post every week is too much for you, try once a month. It’s all about being consistent.
You can build up a solid bank of content for your business. Use this bank to create new blog posts and get out there on social media.
3. Use the right structure
You need to use the right structure for your blog posts, including a H1 heading for your main heading, and H2s or H3s for subheadings.
Using the right structure will help your readers navigate your blog posts, with easy markers like headings. Your content will be easy to skim and accessible for all of your customers.

So, do I really need a content writer?
The answer is no. You don’t need a copy or content writer to create blog posts, web copy or marketing materials for your business.
But doesn’t that extra time sound nice? Don’t you want to spend time on the bits of your business you really love? Don’t you want blog posts that actually reach out to new readers – and maybe even convert them into customers?
